By Helene Lyon, IBM (FR)

IMS is ready for its 45th anniversary and is also extending its reach by providing SUPER and STRONGER solutions.Let's come to hear about IMS positioning in today world.

Hélène Lyon is the technical executive of the European IMS Architecture team whose focus is to develop database and transaction management solutions that fully integrate and collaborate with existing IT systems to perform a business function. Her focus is the "right fit" positioning of the IMS database manager and transaction manager capabilities within those systems. She is recognized worldwide as a technical leader for mainframe middleware. She is often called on to work with clients in all geographies around application modernization for Enterprise Information Systems (for example IMS, CICS, DB2, WAS, and SOA).

S302 - IMS Catalog from A to Z

Written by Anders Öhrnberg on .

By Alison Coughtrie, IBM (UK)

IMS 12 introduced the IMS Catalog, which is designed to offer a trusted and comprehensive view of IMS database metadata managed by IMS using standard interfaces such as JDBC, SQL and DLI. In this session, you will get a detailed view of the catalog database itself and everything you need to understand about it from a technical implementation perspective. We will cover how to set-up the Catalog and initially populate it. Then we'll show how you can update it, query it and perform house-keeping functions against it to keep it tidy - in short, all you need to know about it from A to Z!

Alison Coughtrie, Certified IT Specialist is a member of the European IMS Architecture Team, focussed on helping Customers to maximise their IMS investment to best meet their business needs. Alison has specialised in IMS over the past 30 years both as an IMS customer as well as within IBM. She is a regular presenter at IMS conferences, GSE and seminars particularly focussing on new IMS features and their implementation.

S303 - Operational BI with IMS & Cognos

Written by Anders Öhrnberg on .

By Deepak Kohli , IBM Silicon Valley Lab (US)

IMS is now certified with COGNOS 10.2. Which means you can now use COGNOS to get Business Intelligence (BI) from your IMS data.

But what is BI? How does that differ from BA (Business Analytics)? And what is COGNOS? How did we get BI from IMS data when COGNOS was not around? How do you set up the IMS to COGNOS interface? Is that a simple process or is it involved? Are there Best practices that one needs to adhere to? Who is shakira? Does she know about IMS's involvement with COGNOS? If these questions have been keeping you up at night or if you just want to have fun, then come to this session and learn the secret to life. Also, hopefully, if all goes well, we'll do a demo. And if Murphy shows up, then we won't do a demo and this will be a short session.

Deepak is a Senior Software Engineer at IBM's Silicon Valley lab. Currently, he is part of the IMS product management group providing product direction. In the past, Deepak has also been part of the IMS SOA core team helping customers SOA enable their IMS systems. Deepak also provides IMS Level 2 technical support specializing in IMS On-Demand and TM areas. He has a Masters in Computer Science from NYU. In the area of IMS, Deepak's experience ranges in applications, DBA, Systems, performance tuning and problem determination. He has also taught various IMS & DB2 courses. His presentations have won him rave reviews at conferences world wide.

S305 - Accelerate IMS application modernization

Written by Anders Öhrnberg on .

By Helene Lyon,  IBM (FR)

Have you started your IMS Apps modernization, and are you ready to identify next steps and longer-term strategies? If so, attend this session and learn about some modernization scenarios allowing IMS Apps to become service requester of innovative services, allowing IMS Apps and Data to be called from anywhere in a SOA or SOA-light or mobile environment. Modernization is a journey that can start now!

S306 - IMS Applications Anywhere: Integrating IMS Apps Using DataPower and WTX Design Studio Tooling

Written by Anders Öhrnberg on .

By Curt Bergkvist, Handelsbanken, SWE

This presentation will show a possible solution how to expose existing IMS applications to new clients using IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender (WTX) and WebSphere DataPower XI50. This will allow new clients to access IMS without using traditional APPC, MQ, RACF sign on or passtickets, etc.

Curt Bergkvist, IMS Systems Programmer at Handelsbanken, Sweden. He has e.g participated in implementation of Parallell Sysplex and IMS Connect. Before Curt started to work as a IMS system programmer, he worked as an application developer and designer with focus on application integration.

S307 -Efficiently Accessing WebSphere MQ Messages from and IMS Application Using the MQ API

Written by Anders Öhrnberg on .

By Steve Nathan IBM,US

IMS applications can access WebSphere MQ messages in two ways: they can use the Websphere MQ API or the they can use the MQ IMS Bridge which is an IMS OTMA interface. This session will focus on the WebSphere MQ API. There is a lot more to it than has been documented.

This session will show you different ways the WebSphere MQ API can be used from IMS applications and the performance and integrity implications of each. There will also be a comparison to the MQ IMS Bridge.

Mr. Nathan has 39 years experience using and supporting IMS. For the first 30 years he was a customer: application programmer, application analyst, systems programmer, DBA and performance specialist. For the last 9 years he has worked for IBM in IMS Level 2 support.
