S606 - Give Enterprise a REST: Deep dive enabling RESTful interfaces for Enterprise COBOL and PL/I

Written by Carsten Andersen on .

By Gary Mazo, IBM US

Over several years REST and RESTful interfaces have become quite popular and many presentations have gone over high level overviews of what REST and RESTful is. After giving a *very* brief overview of technologies that revolve around REST, we will take a deep dive through working application samples that involve RESTful client-side technologies, the JAX-RS frameworks, and RESTful techniques for accessing COBOL and PL/I-based Enterprise applications.

Gary Mazo is a Senior Software Engineer with IBM Rational Developer for System z (RDz). Gary joined IBM in 1987, and currently is in charge of architecture and tools for Services development.  He holds 3 software  patents and has authored articles and blogs on topics of software development and Enterprise modernization.

S607 - PD Tools Deep Dive

Written by Carsten Andersen on .

By Wilfried van Hecke, IBM DE

Since many years, IBM has a range of Problem Determination Tools for application programmers, like Debug Tool for source level debugging, Fault Analyser for easier analysis of dumps, Application Performance Analyser for performance analysis, File Manager to manage and create several type of data among them DB2, IMS MQ, VSAM data.
Did you know that you can easily plug them into an eclipse environment to drive these tools with just a few mouse clicks? Join this discussion and live demonstration to witness how productivity of application developers in IMS (and other environments and middleware) may increase by using graphical Windows or Linux user interfaces.

Wilfried Van Hecke is a certified client technical professional from Ehningen, Germany. He has over 30 years of experience in debugging including dump analysis on application programming , CICS, compilers and their run-time environments. He has worked at IBM for exactly 40 years, the last 10 years as technical presales. Since 2012 he is the Europe PanIMT PD Tools Community Leader. His areas of expertise include Language Environment, COBOL, PL/I, IMS, CICS, Debug Tool and other IBM problem determination tools. S609 - RDZ and Source Control Management Systems

Written by Carsten Andersen on .

By Michael Erichsen, Xact Consulting DK

This session will discuss Source Control Management (SCM) systems in relation to Rational Developer for z series (RDz).
Why do you need an SCM? What is the difference between library management, source control management and application lifecycle management? What does SCM do for you, and what does that spell in ITIL-terms? A few words on some of the mainframe products: Librarian, Panvalet, Clearcase, Endevor, Changeman, ISPW, and Rational Team Concert.
Why do you need RDz? And how does RDz complicate your life in a source control world? How do you integrate RDz to an SCM? There is a Rational-provided "CARMA"-interface and specific SCM-vendor-supplied interfaces.
The session will conclude with some experiences from installation and integration and other challenges.

Michael Erichsen is an Enterprise Modernization Specialist at Xact Consulting in Copenhagen. He has a broad experience as a systems programmer and an IT architect.
